Dear Cardinal Angelo Amato and the Congregation,

My name is Trish Chikowore, and I will be explaining why Nelson Mandela would be a wonderful saint.

Nelson Mandela was born in July 18th 1918. After a long successful career, he died on December 5th 2013. I write to suggest that his encouraging heartfelt words could give him a chance at being an inspiring saint.

Nelson Mandela, also known as Nelson Madiba Rolihlahla Mandela, would be an amazing saint. He tried so hard to stop racism,  but sadly had to pay the price. Nelson Mandela had to spend 27 years in prison, as a result of fighting for what he believed in. He wanted everyone to come together as one family. But through the 27 years in prison, he still kept his head held high. Nelson Mandela fought for equal rights for black South Africans so that they would have the same rights as whites.

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”

When Nelson Mandela said this I think  he meant that  your choices do count and your choices should reflect on your hopes and dreams through life, not of your fears. Nelson Mandela made truthful quotes that helped a lot of people.

Another reason that Nelson Mandela would be an honourable saint is his loyalty and his commitment for changing South Africa for the better.

Nelson Mandela had  became a leader in the African National Congress. He planned to bomb most buildings, but only the buildings. He wanted to make sure that no one would be hurt in.

Nelson Mandela  was finally released through international pressure in 1990. Once he was released from prison, Nelson  Mandela continued his campaign to end displeasure. His hard work and life long effort paid off when all people were allowed to vote in the 1994 election for south Africa's president.  Nelson Mandela won the election and became president of South Africa. He knew the way he was living wasn't right so he was trying to make a difference to improve his lifestyle.

I strongly believe that Nelson Mandela has done South Africa proud by his amazing work. He tried, he believed and he succeeded.  Nelson Mandela definitely deserved to be the president of South Africa because of his resilience and patients. South Africa has much improved, all because of Nelson Mandela.

Because of Nelson Mandela's dedication to South Africa there is no doubt in my mind that he should become a saint. He spent almost his whole life in prison for only  fighting for good rights. Nelson Mandela could be a heroic saint and he 100% deserves to be remembered.

Sincerely,

Trish Chikowore

My camp recount

There we were the year 8 leaders going on our end of year camp, at Staveley campsite which is a youth Presbyterian camp. The year 8’s go on these kind of camps to socialize and do some physical activities. The dates of our camp were the 9th of November to the 13th of November. We had a lot of people go to Staveley Campsite . The whole class with 27 students also 11 adults to keep us safe altogether. We had 38 people on our camp.

On the Thursday night when we were at Staveley, we had just finished having our peaceful liturgy. We all went to the lounge to discuss how to play the game of spotlight. As soon as we finished, we all meet outside to choose a person who will be in for the game.

So one of the adults had chosen Mannix to be in for the game of spotlight.  He had 30 seconds to count and to find everyone.

When I was hiding, I hid with Niveek, Tim, Nina and strangely Mr Cartlidge . It was quite funny hiding with these guys, we all hid in some bushes everyone was very quiet.

We saw a really bright light upon us. It was Mannix he saw all of us and said our names. But when Mannix had finished saying all of our names I heard an unusual old lady saying “ Excuse me I am an old lady with my dog please go away”. I was really confused who said that, so I looked behind me and it was Mr Cartlidge. I started laughing it was hilarious, hearing Mr Cartlidge sounding like an old lady.

Overall our game of spotlight was funny and very socializing. I really enjoyed myself, I would love to play spotlight again with the class.
